About Me

Welcome!  I'm Monique, and I'm an artist.

I am also a 30-something wife and mom living in the Kansas City area, and I work full-time.  After a looooooooong hiatus, I recently re-discovered the delight of creating art, and I've been oil painting like crazy in the great outdoors and in my studio.  Painting is an intrinsically enjoyable experience, and I hope to share that joy with others by creating beautiful things.  But, being an amateur, making beautiful art is hard.  There is hope for me, however:

Every artist was first an amateur.  ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Whew.

Hoping to progress beyond the perfectionist-yet-amateur-even-a-blind-pig-finds-an-acorn-sometimes stage, I have put together a self-guided curriculum of exercises and goals to improve my creativity and artistic expression while oil painting.  Using the plentiful resources available to artists (books, workshops, YouTube, artist groups, and the Internet) as inspiration, I am using this blog to plan and document my artistic journey to improve my skills.  The format of this curriculum is easy for others to follow and join in anytime.  I hope you will do so and also share your progress along the way.

Please subscribe to follow along or join in.  I'd love to meet you--please introduce yourself in the comments.  Also, your feedback is most appreciated.  Leave your questions, comments, and hate mail below.  (I won't post the hate mail, ha!)  Thanks for stopping by.  Monique
